In September, Brazil exported 586458 tons of alumina, a year-on-year decrease of 3.32%, and 606626 tons in the same period last year.

The decline in exports was mainly due to the decrease in the export volume of “ALUMAR” alumina refinery, which is jointly owned by Alcoa, south32, Rio Tinto and alumina company. It is located in Maranhão and shipped at São Luís port.

Previously, on September 20, Alcoa announced to restart its 268000 ton capacity of “ALUMAR” aluminum plant. It is expected to produce batch production in the first quarter of 2022, resume production in the fourth quarter, and realize the operation of renewable energy in 2024.
